BC Assessment Notice

You have probably received your BC Assessment notice and may be shocked at the roughly 30% increase in your properties value.  According to BC Assessment, these values reflect their consideration of market value as of July 1st, 2016.

The property taxes payable for next year will be based on these assessments and the tax rate, which will be published by the city in the spring. You can appeal the assessment of your properties value, but you must do it by the end of January.

Here is the link to the BC Assessment site where you can begin the appeals process, as well as see some of the comparable properties used in your assessment:https://www.bcassessment.ca/

A 30% increase on your assessed value does not automatically mean a 30% increase on next year’s property taxes; that will depend on the city’s budget and the tax rate. If you have any questions on your assessment or property taxes, feel free to call me and we can have a more in depth discussion– 604-781-4117.
